Are the events in sequence? Explain to the class that they will use their completed worksheets and writing prompt responses to complete the final draft of their autobiography.
Have them use their Life Map to answer the questions on the board. Approve each plan, providing feedback, or make suggestions for revision. Meet with students individually to discuss any necessary changes. Explain to students that these are the requirements for the assignment.
Learning From Our Pasts Step 1: Home Connections Let the students take their autobiography home and share with their families. Have each student choose a partner for the next steps of the writing process: Divide a large piece of blank paper into equal rectangles.
Labeling the partners allows me to organize their conversations and group roles. Explain that although students will begin writing drafts of their autobiographies today, they are just collecting their thoughts and need not worry about doing everything correctly.
After the students decide on a good topic sentence I write it on the board. What should a topic sentence do? After a volunteers shares their ideas, I ask them to justify it and explain themselves. Allow for additional drafting time.
Provide access to a scanner for students who wish to scan photographs or other images for use in their projects. Through your discussion, students should understand that these materials are the intellectual property of the people who created them, and that there are legal limits to their use in and out of school.
Last, the class has to discuss what things make up a closing sentence. Student will present their slideshows in class. So, I show my students these on my autobiography which I project on the Promethean board.
